What We Believe

We’re part of a faith family called the United Methodist Church.  Our roots go back to John and Charles Wesley, two brothers whose lively faith brought transformation in 18th century England.  They proclaimed a confident faith in Jesus Christ that was expressed in good works and concern for the social community.  Their work extended to the British colonies in North America, and a new church was begun.  

United Methodists continue to be a people of vital faith and social justice, with churches located in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.

We believe that God is revealed to us through the stories of our faith as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We see Jesus Christ as the One who has brought salvation to the world.  We experience the work of the Holy Spirit in many ways, as individuals and as a congregation.

We value the Bible as authoritative, and expect that we need to interpret it through tradition, reason, and experience as we connect it to our lives.  We expect that people will grow in their faith through the power of the Holy Spirit.  We pray for each other and for our world.  Our structure keeps us connected with other United Methodist churches, so that we can more effectively engage with our community.
